Environment Canada seeks to conserve the nation's natural heritage and to provide weather information to Canadian citizens in order to keep them safe and informed. It also funds a number of initiatives that benefit the environment by repairing past damage, anticipating and mitigating future problems and disseminating information. One of its major initiatives is the EcoAction Community Funding Program, which aims to encourage Canadians to address issues of air and water pollution as well as climate change. It funds non-profit organizations, environmental and community groups, and youth and seniors’ service clubs that wish to address important environmental issues in their own areas.

Some of the projects funded by the EcoAction Program have focused on improving local air and water quality, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving biodiversity, and protecting local plants and wildlife. Awards up to $100,000 per project are available.
